Moderator - Liz Warren, director of the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute, will moderate a diverse panel of three discussing the power of storytelling to make a difference in strengthening communities:

Panelists include:

Doug BlandDoug Bland serves as pastor of the Tempe Community Christian Church, known as “the storytelling church.”  Doug and the church offer storytelling programs “as a way to explore the human soul.”  Twice the congregation has received the Martin Luther King Diversity Award from the Tempe Human Relations Commission.  Storyteller and teacher, Doug also is the chairperson of the Arizona Interfaith Power & Light which mobilizes people to reduce the causes of global climate change.

Queen NurQueen Nur (Karen Abdul-Malik), nationally renowned storyteller and teaching artist, has received “Mid-Atlantic Artist as Catalyst” grants for her work with teens-at-risk and women’s shelters.  Queen received NSN’s Brimstone Award for Applied Storytelling for her “Sustaining Culture and Traditions through Storytelling” project, designed to use storytelling and folk arts as a tool for the community’s voice on social justice issues, to build community partnerships and to forge intergenerational relationships and to ignite change.

Kiran SirahKiran Singh Sirah is the Executive Director of the International Storytelling Center, an advisory member to UNESCO, a Rotary Peace fellow, storyteller and poet.  Kiran uses the power of human creativity to establish discourse and dialogue, empowering communities to address issues related to gang violence, sectarian and ethnic conflict, poverty and other forms of human rights violations.  In 2012 Kiran was invited to give an address at The United Nations Headquarters, “Telling Stories That Matter.”

Guild Table is the Place to Hang Out

Tucson Tellers of Tales and East Valley Tellers of Tales will have a Sponsor Table at the Conference.

This will be one of the best places to network or just "hang out." There will be items for sale, information about both guilds, and how you can get involved, meet fellow storytellers and improve your storytelling!

We need your help.
Are you available to meet and greet, and monitor the table? We have a few slots open for table monitors.

Network and Schmooze with Hundreds of Storytellers

Hey there Phoenix area Peeps----

Even if you can't afford the conference - Come on Saturday & Sunday and hang!

The NSN Conference is a great place to hang out and meet tellers from all over the world. Everyone needs some time off from breakout sessions. That's when we all hang out in the Atrium area, bars, restaurants and just relax. Free schmoozing going on here!

But you know that storytellers LOVE to talk and tell stories. So that's a great time to just walk up to someone sitting there and say, "Hi there. I'm a storyteller! I think you might be one too!"

SPECIAL BONUS - ROOM CONCERTS
A new phenomenon has emerged at the last few NSN Conferences - After Hours Rooom Concerts.
These are small get-togethers held on Friday and Saturday nights in some of our hotel rooms where storytellers do what they do best - TELL!

We never know what's going to happen until we get to the conference and someone posts a notice, but they happen all the time!
