It's OPPORTUNITY!
They say that "When opportunity knocks...make sure you open the door!" But how do you know when it's knocking? ALL THE TIME!
On the Blarney Castle tour, we had another great tour guide, Wayne. He was funny and knowledgeable, and we hit it off right away. I was one minute late getting back to the bus after a break, and the rule was that you had to pay one Euro for each minute. When we stopped for lunch, I told Wayne I would pay when we got back on the bus after lunch. He begged off, and said I didn't have to pay, it was just a way to keep people on their toes and make it fun. "Well," says I, "How about I tell a story when we get going again?" He agreed.
Earlier, Wayne had told a story about when Cromwell had forced the Irish out of their homes. With that, and the castle, I told the story of The Faithful Wives. The group on the bus liked it, and a few people even asked me for a business card.
There are opportunities for telling and for promoting yourself every day! And if it doesn't seem like there is one, make a sound with your knuckles, or your foot, as if you hear a knocking at the door. Then open it!
