Day 2 - Thursday, May 18, 2017 -

London -
Today we'll start with a visit to the Globe Theatre - famous site of many of Shakespeare’s plays. Most of his plays had both a prologue and an epilogue. Sometimes, these could stand on their own as the "bare bones" of the story of the play. We'll see what play is on (we'll know before the tour) and discuss attending... or perhaps some other production/show in the evening.

We'll head for the London Eye, a giant slow-moving ferris wheel (you don't feel it move) with spectacular views of the city.

Other possible atractions today: Madame Tousuad's Wax Museum - surprisingly, one of the most fun attractions!

Rest of the day - free

Accommodations:
TBA

Day 2 - Friday, May 19, 2017 -8:00 am Train from London to Canterbury

Canterbury - arrive approx 10:30 am at Canterbury East Train Station
short/cheap taxi from Canterbury East to Kipps
The city is steeped in both religious and literary history. There is an enjoyable "street fair" ambiance with many "busking" performers, food carts and interesting sights.

Hotel check in is at 2:00 PM, so we will drop our bags and head to the Cathedral for a tour. There is much history in this lavish old cathedral. The massive ceilings tower over visitors and there are many displays of the riches of the church. There are many preserved artifacts, such as the armor of Edward, Prince of Wales, known as the Black Night.

After the cathedral, we'll lunch, then head to The Canterbury Experience (a “walk through” of several of the Canterbury Tales). You may recognize some of the stories both told and represented by the characters in the displays. Perhaps you didn't know they came from Chaucer's famous book. Or maybe you did, and are aware of the mutations they have gone through.

Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer, is a collection of twenty stories, presented as part of a story-telling contest by a group of pilgrims as they travel together on a journey to the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. A similar contest will be open to all tellers on this tour – sort of a Canterbury Story Slam. The prize for the best teller will be a free dinner on the last night of the tour!

Rest of the day free.

Another day in Canterbury
Today we'll enjoy the flat bottom "punting" boat guided tour of the mill stream. There are some beautiful sights and we should get a bit of a short history lesson from the guides. We will assess the skills of the guide as it pertains to storytelling in interpretive settings.

We'll also enjoy the carnival-like atmosphere of the city. There are many musicians and street performers (buskers). Anyone want to try their hand at gathering a crowd for a story - - then passing the hat?!?!

Next, a tour of the Canterbury Geographic/Historical Museum and/or the Roman Museum. Both great sites with a lot of rich history.
