Hi folks. I am looking for other Arizona-local storytellers for a variety of events in the 2017/2018 season. Most events are not paid but include a small stipend for expenses at least. You get real-experience and advanced-level coaching. Events are primarily in the west-valley of the greater Phoenix area.
All skill levels are welcome to apply and folks new to me (or as I determine) will get free and mandatory coaching. Send an Email to me at seantells@gmail.com with the SUBJECT LINE of CASTING CALL 2017 and let me know your interest.
I need tellers that can tell traditional world tales (folk, fairy, myth, legend, etc.) at least and some personal tales will be okay. Casting for both older audiences and some kid/parent events. Follow the directions and contact me. You'll hear back in 24 hours.

Shining Stars Talent Show - Fundraiser Auditions - THIS WEEK
Performance - Friday - October 6th SMCC Performing Arts Center
Save the date for the SMCC Shining Stars Talent Show and Fundraiser at the South Mountain Community College Performing arts Center.
A variety of performing artists from SMCC and the community will audition in September to earn a place in the program. Stay tuned!
The tickets are $25 and the audience will determine which acts take home the cash prizes. A panel of judges will be present for commentary. First place wins $1000, second place wins $300, and third place wins $200. Use the link provided to purchase tickets online!
Students Transformed to Achieve Radiant Success (STARS), a scholarship foundation, is coordinating auditions in September for a talent show in October at South Mountain Community College (SMCC), to raise money for student scholarships.
A non-refundable $50 Donation is required to audition.

Storyfind at SMCC Storyfind - Storytelling and Leadership with Travis May

Storyfind is a free monthly storytelling workshop series presented by the faculty of the SMCC Storytelling Institute. The workshops are on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 – 3:00 in PAC-739 at South Mountain Community College.
Sept. 23rd: To be a leader is to be a storyteller. In whatever context you are a leader, you will be asked to tell stories – stories to inspire, to console, to build community, to highlight achievements, to set goals and to reframe setbacks.
Join Travis to learn the five essential stories all leaders must tell, and to craft one of your own.
Travis May has served in many roles throughout his 20-plus year tenure at South Mountain Community College. He has been a Helpdesk Manger, Project Manager, Audio Visual Coordinator and currently an adjunct storytelling instructor. Travis really enjoys being a storytelling instructor and feels storytelling is more than just telling stories, it is a way of life. Travis enjoys incorporating storytelling to engage learners in cultural and community awareness.

Professional public speaking included topics like “Public Speaking Without Panic,” “Get Up and Talk About Your Writing,” and “ASK ASK ASK: Getting What You Want and Need in Professional and Personal Relationships.” She is the author of Thinking of Miller Place: A Memoir of Summer Comfort, and Seedlings, Stories of Relationships.
Penelope Starr founded Odyssey Storytelling in 2004 and it’s been going strong ever since bringing innovative, entertaining and thought-provoking stories to the Tucson community each month. She has coached hundreds of people in how to craft and present their stories. Penelope put her experiences and tips in a how-to/memoir, The Radical Act of Community Storytelling: Empowering Voices in Uncensored Programs.
Smell, Taste, and Touch - The Forgotten Senses A reprint of a tip from July of 2012. Don't forget.
Most of the time, we use only sight and sound in our stories, i.e., “The Wolf saw the first little pig entering his house of straw. Even from the edge of the woods, he could hear its carefree singing.”
But the other three senses can be powerful elements in crafting the language of story. They can paint heightened images for your listeners. Consider smell, taste and touch with the Wolf:
“Even from the edge of the woods, the Wolf could smell the first little pig. Faintly masked by the odor of damp straw, the aroma of fresh meat reached his practiced nostrils. He began to salivate. The dull flavor of the grass he had chewed on that morning began to fade as he savored the anticipation of young, pink flesh. He dug his claws into the ground, testing his grip with each step, as he eagerly but stealthily approached the fragile hut.”
You can also mix metaphors. Many writers have used the phrase, “The smell of fear.” What would a sunset taste like? How might music feel on your body?
The senses open up a whole world of images. Find the sense that can enhance each part of your story or your characters. Play with it and expand it. You may be surprised with the brush stroke you can paint.
What will your verse be? Robin Williams was an incredible actor, and he had many quite incredible rolls and dialogue written for him. Dead Poet's Society was one of my favorites. Here is the famous scene talking about language.
