We would also like to devote about half of our next meetings (in May and June) to discussing the possibility of alternative formats for our monthly meetings. We have a few ideas of our own and also welcome input from others for ways that EVTOT can sustain and grow current and future members.

Think Story

We do it all the time.... mostly on an unconscious level: we tell stories. We relate what happened at a store in the mall, or how we got cut off on the street. We can't wait to tell a friend what we purchased online, and how it was delivered the next day! We relish relating tales of restaurants and food we savored, even before we took that photograph of it. Telling stories comes naturally to us.

But when someone asks us a question, we quite often revert to offering "data" or a mere list as an answer. What happened to story? It just flew out the window. To truly be storytellers, we must begin to "think story". How can we communicate in story? Two semesters ago, one of my students related that in a job interview, she was asked, "What other places have you worked?" Instead of rattling off a list of her employment, she "told a story"...and got the job! She was thinking in story, and had communicated by telling a story!

So next time someone asks you, "What did you buy at the grocery store?" - Don't merely recite your grocery list, tell them about the ADVENTURE you had!

We're off to see the wizard...or perhaps, the Queen.
The Historical, Hysterical Storytellling England Tour is on!

On Sunday, May 15th, five storytelling students and colleagues and I will board a plane for merry old England! We'll be there for ten days of storytelling, sightseeing, laughter & fun.

You, too, can follow along as we explore Canterbury Cathedral and Chaucer's Tales of pilgrims; England's tallest spire atop Salisbury Cathedral and the original Magna Carta; the monoliths of Stonehenge with speculative druid tales; Oxford college and the Oxford Storytelling Museum and the sights and sounds of historic and modern-day London, from the groundlings of the Globe Theatre to the panoramic views from the London Eye!

I will do my best to post every day and relate the exploits and escapades of our storied expedition!
