First Time in Four Years No, you are not going crazy...well...who knows for sure? But for those who check regularly, or look foreword to each weekly Newsletter, yes...I missed last week! Due to the time constraints of the England tour (see below) I was unable to post a Newsletter last week. Please forfive me, it's the first time in four years and over 200 issues that I have missed a week. I promise to do better in the future!
England Storytelling Tour is In the Books! I am happy to report that the inaugural Historical Hysterical Storytelling England Tour was, by all accounts, a success! I took five students and colleagues on a ten-day tour of all of my favorite places in England. Along the way we learned about the history of many of the cities and landmarks, and told a few stories and jokes as well! We laughed and had fun...and walked a lot!
All-in-all, we visited four cities; over a dozen landmarks or attractions; over a dozen pubs/restaurants; and walked between two and four miles a day! We saw cities and venues close-up and personal, and from the heights of cathedral spires and the London Eye. AND...as you can see in the picture at right, one of our group was on crutches!
Heather Merrill broke a bone in her foot just three days before our trip. She told her doctor, "Do the surgery, cause no matter what, I am going!" Heather actually blazed the way for us as she wielded her crutches to our advantage and crowds of people parted like the Red Sea!
On previous trips to England, I wrote a blog almost every day. However, on this trip, our time was filled with so much that, with my responsibilities as the tour guide, I had no time to post. Be assured that I will write and post pictures soon so you can all enjoy in our adventure!

AZ Storytellers Project Wins Top Honors at INMA World Congress I didn't even know it, but on Tuesday, our own Megan Finnerty was also in London and walked across a stage at the Victoria & Albert Museum to pick up an award for the storytelling program she helped found at the Arizona Republic four years ago. The Arizona Storytellers Project won the first place award for "Best Use of an Event to Build a News Brand" at the International News Media Association World Congress.
Congrats to Megan for all her hard work and the great success of the Storytellers Project!
Summer Heat Forestalls Storyfind Sessions Summertime is here, and the temperature is rising! Because of that, and the fact that SMCC turns the air conditioning off on the weekends, Liz Warren has cancelled the Storyfind gatherings for the months of June and July. Check the calendar section and this newsletter regarding August.
Sessions will resume in September, on the fourth Saturday of each month. Have a great summer!

Arizona Storytellers - Stories About Stories Friday June 3rd
ASU's Cronkite School of Journalism
Join azcentral.com, The Arizona Republic and Alliance Bank of Arizona as we take over the First Amendment Forum at ASU's Cronkite School with the stories behind the stories from Arizona-based journalists.
The night will also commemorate the 40th anniversary of the murder of Republic journalist Don Bolles, who died in a car bombing at what was then the Hotel Clarendon in Phoenix.
The night will feature stories about Bolles' work, life and death, as well as ones about the continued relevance of Arizona-based investigative and watchdog journalism.
This is event is free with registration.
If you choose to make the suggested $12 donation, all of that money will go to Investigative Reporters & Editors.
IRE is a journalism leadership and training organization which was founded as a direct result of Bolles’ death.
LOCATION: The First Amendment Forum is on the 2nd floor of the ASU Cronkite School building at 1st and Taylor streets.
PARKING: Parking is free at the Republic Media garage at 2nd and Taylor streets.

We had a wide-ranging and interesting discussion with lots of different ideas at the last East Valley Tellers of Tales about our mission and format and what we'd like to be. The upshot was that we really need to figure out what our purpose is. Do we need to craft a new mission statement?
Discussion participants really enjoy the sharing stories aspect of our meetings. There were some thoughts about adding coaching as an added option to our appreciations. There was also the suggestion of mixing up our meetings of story sharings with occasional workshops. There was some interest in adding a public performance or outreach to our mission.
Since there is still a lot of love for the current story sharing format, there was some discussion that our most basic plan of action might be to better promote, including getting a Facebook site for EVTOT.
We will continue our discussion at the June 14 meeting of East Valley Tellers of Tales, 10 am - noon at the Scottsdale Public Library downtown. We will still share stories for one hour in addition to our on-going discussion. Please join us to share your visions and ideas for the continuation of East Valley Tellers of Tales.
NOTICE: The EVTOT officers have decided to NOT meet in July and August. We would also like to devote about half of this meeting to discuss the possibility of alternative formats for our monthly meetings. We have a few ideas of our own and also welcome input from others for ways that EVTOT can sustain and grow current and future members.
