YES & SHE Pre-Conference

The NSN Youth Educators and Storytellers (YES) and Storytellers in Higher Education (SHE) pre-conference workshops will be on Wednesday, July 23rd at the conference. This all-day Pre-Conference offers many workshops for storytellers and educators who use storytelling. Several workshops will deal with Common Core Standards and printed material on these will be available. In addition, there will be a Youth Track and a concert presented by K-12 tellers!

Youth Teller Track Affords Great Opportunity
Currently Harriet Cole is looking for potential youth tellers to attend the Youth Track during this workshop and possibly participate in the Youth Concert. Please contact her at hcdove@gmail.com if you are/know a young teller who might be interested in attending some pre-conference story circles to prepare for this fantastic opportunity.

A place for Christian women to get together to hear and tell of the wonders that God has done in their lives or (with permission) in the lives of others.  This is a fun, exciting new way to hear six 8-10 minute personal, uplifting, faith-promoting stories about the wonders of God, and enjoy a delicious brunch! They offer fun, laughter, and a chance to win door prizes! This great event is curated by recent SMCC Storytelling Institute graduate Anne McDowell.

It's at Dobson’s Restaurant at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa from 10am - 12 Noon.

Miracles...Large and Small

Have you ever experienced a miracle? Maybe not the kind of cloud parting, blazing sun or bright-light type that are portrayed in movies, but perhaps still a miracle to you? It could make a great story!

  • The time you almost got into a major accident.
  • The time you (by chance) came across the person you thought you had lost forever and rekindled the love.
  • The time when you were eight years old and almost burned down the house (yes, I almost did).
  • All the times when something almost happened, but for some strange, inexplicable reason, it didn't.

Search your memory for those times. Maybe you thought it was just a strange anecdote, or a funny coincidence. Was it really fate? Or was it a miracle of some sort?

Was it something you can turn into a story? We've all had them. We all want to hear about yours, because it will remind us of ours. And that's part of what storytelling is about!

See the Tidbit below for a great Miracle story.

Kangaroo Care - Now THAT'S a Great Story!

I ran across this video story from 2010 on Facebook. How amazing! An Australian mother gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. They were premature. The girl was fine, but the boy was pronounced dead. The Mother held him to her chest for two hours and he began to show signs of life, and survived. Now THERE'S a story!
