Liz Warren Receives NSN Oracle Award

Congratulations to our own Liz Warren, Director of the SMCC Storytelling Institute, who has received the 2014 NSN Western Region Service & Leadership Award! The institute won the award in 1996, but this tribute is specifically for Liz.

Doug Bland wrote these words about Liz:

Liz was one of the founders of and the primary genius behind the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute. For the past several years she has served as the Director of the Storytelling Institute. During that time the Institute has grown, the number of full time and adjunct faculty have increased and a number of creative programs have developed. She is a leader who inspires other leaders.

I know of no storyteller who is more consistent than Liz. She is money in the bank. Whether she is telling a personal anecdote over coffee, recounting an Irish folktale or regaling us with a Grail legend, her stories are high quality, artistic experiences. She combines the spiritual depth of a mystic, the good humor of a court jester, the insights of an experienced guide and the warmth of a caring fellow human being.

Tell, Tell, Tell

Here's a tip that's so simple, I should have posted it a long time ago. Sometimes the simplest of things fall through the cracks.

In order to tell well...you have to tell a lot. Tell as often as you can. Tell as many different stories as you can, as many times as you can.Tell to different audiences so you get a diverse cross-section of demographics and responses. The more you tell, the more you learn.

Sage words from friend and colleague Storyteller Extraordinaire Kim Weitkamp (while at the 2010 Jonesborough Festival).

Mentoring for Self Publishing with Sean Buvala
Sean Buvala will be offering a great "group coaching" experience for those who are interested in "self-publishing" a book! The group format keeps the price down and affords participants to learn from and interact with each other. This workshop/coaching will start in the middle of May and go for approximately 4-5 weeks, depending on individual schedules.

This looks like a fantastic opportunity to learn how to get into writing and publishing YOUR book!
