NSN is looking for an Interim Executive Director!
One of the primary accomplishments at the fall NSN 2014 Board meeting was the approval of a part-time Interim Executive Director position in Kansas City. This is an addition, not a replacement, to our current staff, in order to accelerate progress with our partnership building and fund development in Kansas City, while the Woodneath historic home (NSN’s new office) is being renovated.

Loren Russell at Wild Horse Pass Local teller and flute player Loren Russel opens a new season of "Stories and Songs" at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
He starts this Thursday, December 4th and continues on through March 21, 2015.
Gather at The Fire Pit at 6:00pm. This is a free event and open to the public.
Odyssey Storytelling in Tucson - Moving Their Venue Thursday, December 4th
This curated Storytelling event in Tucson is in its 12th year! Six people are invited to tell ten minute, personal stories on a theme in front of an audience. The stories are not read or memorized, they are told from the life experiences and creativity of the teller.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Show starts at 7:00 p.m.

Myths and Folktales of Norway with Harriet Cole Saturday & Sunday, December 6 - 7
EXPERIENCE NORWAY at the Musical Instrument Museum!
A whole weekend of Norwegian music, food, crafts and STORIES.
Hear the stories of old told by the hearth to keep warm on the long, dark nights of a Norwegian winter. Local storyteller Harriet Cole, an instructor at the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute, specializes in the Norse sagas and performs throughout the country. Join her for a taste of the Nordic folktales with four themes you won’t want to miss!

December - The Best Month for People Watching
And story crafting!
I am a people watcher. I love to observe people in their "natural habitat" doing what they do; whether at the grocery store, airport, in a shopping mall, wherever! It's kind of like your own, personal, "Candid Camera." If you watch long enough, you will see and hear people exhibiting both strange and amazing behaviors. And you just might see something that could turn into an anecdote, a "snippet" of a story, an intro into a story or even a full-blown slam-pleaser! The holiday season is GREAT for this!
You never know when a story might come along. So you always need to be ready and pay attention to the possibilities.
Standing in line at the grocery store
Waiting in the dentist's or doctor's office
Watching couples or families at the airport
That sales person who is trying to get you to buy
The tech support worker apologizing for the umpteenth time
A chance encounter with your "ex".
Any of these and more can be small anecdotes that might turn into full-scale stories. But you have to be hyper-vigilante in order to find incredible stories.
