NSN Auction - - ONLY 3 MORE DAYS! The National Storytelling Network Auction is only available for THREE MORE DAYS! The auction supports the NSN Member Grant Programs. These programs are awarded throughout the year for the development of individual work, collaborative projects, community-based storytelling programs, or for scholarly research. In the past, two of our own Phoenix storytellers, Cassie Cushing and Caleb Winebrenner have been recipients of member grant awards.
Items up for bid include registrations and passes for Timpanogos Storytelling Festival; two hours of coaching with Kendall Haven; coaching by Doug Lipman; many different autographed CDs; gift certificates from August House and many, many, great hand crafted items!
Storytelling Tour of England - THIS SUMMER! For three years, I have wanted to conduct a Storytelling Tour of England NOW IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!
Space is LIMITED. I can only take 12 people And I already have 4 students signed up!
After having bicycled England for four summers, I am finally organizing this Storytelling Workshop Tour for the summer of 2016. If you love to tell stories, talk about stories, craft stories, have fun and see the sights with friends, then this tour is for you. The plan is to spend eight days touring these iconic sites, but don't panic, this tour is on trains and busses, not bikes, so anyone can come and enjoy. Listeners, spouses, partners and friends are welcome too!
The tour and workshops will be lead by me and my friend and colleague, Colorado Storyteller Pam Faro.
The Valley Losing Story Our community will soon be losing Story... Joyce Story that is.
One of the mainstays of our storytelling community will be moving to Florida in late December to be near her family. We will certainly miss her melodious voice and her original stories of the Sonoran Desert. Did you know that Joyce has also written two books? Did you know that she is fluent in French, Russian, Polish and Spanish?
Thanks, Joyce, for letting us know all the marvelous things about the different flora and fauna of the desert! Our loss is Florida's gain. You will be missed!

The ability to craft and tell stories is an essential in the toolkit of every business person, entrepreneur, and leader. Storytelling is the current buzzword in advertising, and entrepreneurial circles because of its power to engage and inform listeners and clients. In this class you will learn the basics of finding, crafting and telling stories and then adapting them to meet a range of applications. Taught by Storytelling Institute Director, Liz Warren.
This is a 1-credit class that packs a lot of information into two days!

When I Was Your Age: Connecting Through Family Stories
Sharing our experiences and feelings through storytelling is the best way to connect with people. Telling personal and family stories is how we bond with and learn from our families and others. Stories handed down from generation to generation help preserve family history and memories. Family stories help give children a sense of “who they are” and “where they fit”; an all-too-often forgotten element of life. Mark Goldman will walk participants through the process of how to find and craft their personal and family stories.
Turn Anything Into a Story
Contrary to the many statements about "everything is story" that are proliferating the internet, "Everything is NOT a story... but it could be."
Every day, we see and hear people, animals, objects, ideas, concepts etc. If one really thinks about it, all these things usually trigger emotions and memories for us. What if we were to be hyper-vigilant about all these things and ask ourselves, "Where does that fit for me? Do I have a story connected with that; a story that would stand up to all the criteria for storytelling?"
Here is a video that came across my Facebook page from a friend of a friend or a friend. It's a great little piece about what advice our "older" selves might give to our "younger" selves. Not only is it a great video, but it lends itself to what I am talking about.
First of all, the premise is one that is timeless regarding "I wish I had known that..." Second of all, listen to each of the individual statements. Are there pieces of your life that you can relate to? Perhaps you could craft a story about that. Or even a few short stories could become a "string of pearls".
Wait for the 93 year old. Priceless!

Battle Marks Veteran's Stories in Ink Joseph Swaba, Communications Professor at Gateway Community College has helped the college put together an amazing project and website.
Battle Marks is about veterans, their families and their stories. Many videos of these courageous souls and the tattoos they proudly bare as battle marks. The "ink" tells their stories, and represents the love, fears, trials and triumphs of both those who served, and their loved ones.
It is only fitting as Veteran's Day is Wednesday, that we honor these men and women. Gateway College has stepped up to spearhead this project, and to support and assist the brave defenders of our country.
