One of the primary accomplishments at the fall NSN 2014 Board meeting was the approval of a part-time Interim Executive Director position in Kansas City. This is an addition, not a replacement, to our current staff, in order to accelerate progress with our partnership building and fund development in Kansas City, while the Woodneath historic home (NSN’s new office) is being renovated.

Women Storytellers Saturday - November 22nd - 10am-Noon
Anne McDowell has organized another event: Out of the Box Storytelling - Women Storytellers. A place for Christian women to get together to hear and tell of the wonders that God has done in their lives or (with permission) in the lives of others. This is a fun, exciting new way to hear six 8-10 minute personal, uplifting, faith-promoting stories about the wonders of God, and enjoy a delicious brunch! They offer fun, laughter, and a chance to win door prizes!
It's at Dobson’s Restaurant at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa from 10am - 12 Noon.

Tucson Tellers of Tales TELLABRATION!™ EVENT Thursday, November 22th - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
TELLABRATION!™ is a worldwide storytelling festival which started in 1988 and takes place annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Tellers of Tales Inc., a non-profit organization, was founded in 1979 by Sheila Pattison, who believed that stories and storytellers need nurturing to thrive. The organization exists to preserve oral literature through promotion of the art of storytelling. Multiple members of Tellers of Tales will perform various folk tales, personal accounts and other forms of storytelling. This concert is dedicated to the memory of Sheila Pattison.

YarnBOWL Storytelling Challenge Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
Valley teller & MC Dan Hoen Hull announced that starting this month, there will be a YarnBOWL Storytelling Challenge on the last Wednesday evening of each month. There will be a $25 prize for the best story!
The YarnBOWL Storytelling Challenge will be held 8:00pm at Lawn Gnome Publishing & Bookstore at 905 N 5th St Phoenix, AZ
To qualify:
Come armed with your TWO best 5-6 minute stories. There’s no theme. This is all about your finest yarns
First eight people to sign up get to compete. Sign up starts 7:30pm with Becky at the store register.
Two rounds of four storytellers.
Final round of two storytellers to square off in the YarnBOWL.
Winner, determined by the audience judges, will get something good. We promise.
Yarnball: funny, inspiring, motivating, brutal, gripping and always living.
Lawn Gnome Publishing is located at 905 N 5th St Phoenix, AZ. Donations will be accepted in order to help develop a storytelling venue in Phoenix. All of our shows are all ages and uncensored. Our used bookstore will be open during the event. Refreshments are available for purchase

A whole weekend of Norwegian music, food, crafts and STORIES.
Hear the stories of old told by the hearth to keep warm on the long, dark nights of a Norwegian winter. Local storyteller Harriet Cole, an instructor at the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute, specializes in the Norse sagas and performs throughout the country. Join her for a taste of the Nordic folktales with four themes you won’t want to miss!
Write It Down! They say that, "An elephant never forgets." But some older elephants need to write things down!
My long-term memory is fading...I think. When Donald Davis was here a few weeks ago, his prompts helped me access some old memories. With each telling of a particular story from my days in high school, I was able to remember more and more details, names and places, words that were spoken. Most of the time, the repetition helps to bring back lost memories.
But not always.
Several weeks ago, I was reminiscing, and caught a glimpse of my first girlfriend in the sixth grade. I spoke to someone about it and called out her name...I didn't write it down...and then...it was gone!
I have wracked my brain, I have talked about her golden blonde hair, and the time we sat on the small cliff overlooking the highway and we held hands for the first time...but I couldn't recall her name. I ran through numerous iterations of what I THOUGHT it was: Melanie, Mitzi, Mellissa (something flirty like that). I think she had an alliterative name, like Mitzi Meyers or Melanie Martin. I couldn't re-capture it. I remembered her cute little button nose, her bright blue eyes, her small red lips...but her name still escaped me.
Next time I remember something...I HAVE to WRITE IT DOWN! So I won’t forget it the NEXT time.

Coming in Second, Sandy did a great job of capturing the short story I told her of a my terrible 8th grade English teacher who ridiculed me in front of the class for "The worst book report" he had ever read. Well, Mr. I can't remember your name; I am now a published author! Mean English teacher. Perseverant Goldman. Published!
Winner - Clem Condon
Some may remember Clem's great story of his prize-winning 4-H Cow (Sir Loin). As a young boy, the impact of the cow winning, then being taken away for slaughter didn't hit him until he returned home and went to his secret place in the barn, to be away from his brothers, and allow his tears to come. I think he captured the moment in his six words! Cow mooed. Kicked bucket. I cried.
