Tucson Tellers of Tales - Guild Meeting

Saturday, February 4th - 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Unscrewed Theater, 3244 E Speedway.

Tucson Tellers of Tales: monthly meeting and mini-workshop for members and guests at Unscrewed Theater, 3244 E Speedway.

The program, “A Little Chaos in the Territory,” will be presented by Marc Severson who plans to share his experience on how his book moved from idea to publication.

We are happy to report our group is on the “grow,” with four new members signing up so far this year. After attending our January meeting, a guest shared the following remarks on our Meetup account page:

“Thank you Tucson Tellers of Tales members for enlivening my Saturday morning and my heart. You are a warm, welcoming and inspiring group of people and I learned a lot in listening to the three of you (and your "listening president" as well). I am not sure how I will personally move into the world of storytelling or what "prime time" looks like but you were compelling enough to return to. I will see you next month with my $15 and my eagerness to learn more. Thank you for your generosity of spirit.”  - Sher

Overcoming Obstacles

My computer is in HOSPICE!

By that I mean that it is slowly dying. A couple of weeks ago, it started acting strange. It wouldn't save any WORD files, then it other programs began to crash. When I tried to download new versions of the programs that were giving me difficulty, they didn't download or install correctly. It was in a Cyber Coma, and my pain followed quickly after!

Now, that might not sound like much of an "obstacle", but it could be. In reality, getting the Newsletter posted along with EVERYTHING else I do where my computer is an integral part of my life is a BIG THING to me. It is an obstacle that I need to get over.

Remember that, like the Hero's Journey, there must be some obstacle that your protagonist must overcome, whether it is slaying the dragon, capturing the Golden Fleece, solving the riddle of the Sphinx...or finding a way to fix or replace a computer.

What skills does your protagonist posses? How have they used those skills in the past (long ago and recent past)? How might they use them in conquering the "trouble" that has befallen them? Who is the "helper" who can advise and encourage your protagonist? Are there humorous parts to this story? Or is it a more serious tale? Who is your audience? Can they relate to the trouble and struggle your protagonist must endure? Will they be elated once the obstacle is conquered?

MY struggle is almost over. I have purchased a refurbished computer and am cloning my old computer before it dies on me. I must remember that it is close to ten years old (I am using OFFICE 2007!). I know that it's tiime is near and that I should be happy that it lasted this long, as the life expectancy of most computers is only 4-6 years. It was good to me, but it's time to let it go.

Your hurdles, and your protagonist's may be large or small, but remember that story is about the struggle, and the triumph once the obstacle is overcome!

If Your Obstacle is Money - Start Saving Now!
We've got just a few spaces left!

We are finding the lowest airfares I have seen in the past seven years! Currently, round trip is $850. That makes the total cost around $2600! Fares are going up and down, I am checking fares daily, so contact me if this piques your interest. PLUS, I can make a payment plan if needed!

This time, the plan is to also visit Dublin and some of the surrounding countryside, like Blarney Castle (kiss the Blarney Stone), the Cliffs of Moher; ride the storytelling bus in Dublin; visit many pubs in the Temple Bar district; and walk the historic grounds of Trinity College. That's in ADDITION to all the other cities and venues in England!

Last year's tour was a great success. Mostly, we laughed! Everyone said it was a great tour and they loved it. Three students and two teachers from GCC had a great time on the scheduled events and were extremely happy about the large amount of "free time" that they had to explore on their own.

The dates for next summer are May 16th through May 28th. That's eleven days on the ground, for sightseeing, telling stories, doing a little teaching and coaching, and laughing a lot! I guarantee you'll have the time of your life, and live happily ever after!
