Learn from the Masters

Aspiring artists study those who have come before, the masters in their profession. Painters study da Vinci, Rembrandt, Picasso, Monet, etc. Musicians study classical composers like Tchaikovsky, Wagner; jazz greats Duke Ellington, Count Basie and the recently departed Dave Brubek.

Storytellers should do no less. It is important to know who the "masters" are in our industry. Go to see them in live performances, or watch online videos. Study how they craft their stories; how they tell them, what makes them unique. Read about them; find out how they started and what they discovered along their rise to the top of their profession.

Picasso did not paint like the Grand Masters that came before him, but rest assured that he studied them closely before he developed his own unique style.

Storytellers would do well to do the same.

Learn from These Masters
So you want to know who some of the Masters in storytelling are? Where can you find them? Where can you find their videos? Many of them are only one click away!

Over the past few years, I have had the good fortune to meet many great storytellers. I have even recorded some of them as they talked about what they love about storytelling or what advice thay might have for new tellers. They are all compiled on the "Experts" section of this website. To date, there are 37 tellers with one-minute video "bites" that they have graciously allowed me to record and share. Along with the videos, there are links to their websites, so you can learn more about them. These aren't all the masters of storytelling. . .but they're a good start.
